What do you enjoy about working in the BI sector?
As this is my first job in the BI sector, I have learned so much insight from the data we have. As technology is fast-paced and ever-changing. In my experience, I have not really asked myself what I can do with all this data that I have gathered, and what to do you do with your data after? I find it interesting to use embedded analytics tools because developing in the cloud, we gather a lot of metrics from different services, and we can have an overview of all our cloud estate. Using embedded analytics tools helps me do a better job.
What makes pi a good place to work?
I would say the people make Panintelligence awesome. I am surrounded by people that are extremely knowledgeable about their area of expertise. I can ask a question and I'll have 10 people responding to assist. While we are always adapting to new technology, we are always sharing our knowledge. In addition to that, we are encouraged to fail quickly and learn fast so we can learn from our mistakes and improve future processes.
I have nearly been here a year and looking back, I’ve achieved a lot at Panintelligence because of the culture here. I am not intending to slow down either!
Outside of work – how do you spend your time?
As I've moved up from London, I’ve been exploring and enjoying the countryside. I’ve been improving my cooking skills; I am sure someone is swapping my clothes to tighter clothes. I do enjoy helping friends with projects and playing games. Once lockdown is lifted, I am sure to explore all the food places and bars! Before Covid, I did enjoy traveling abroad with friends exploring but that is on hold until it is a bit safer.
What advice would you give to people interested in working in the tech sector?
I always say, “trial and error” and “baby steps”. You can be overwhelmed with the amount of information you see online and do not know where to start. If you have an idea or a skill you want to learn, there are plenty of free resources online. While you do get excited with the new shiny tools, it is also important to learn the history of existing technology. Always remember to document your work. One to show off and the other you will forget some information.
If you weren’t working for pi – what would you be doing?
Before Panintelligence, I would have looked into game development or network security. Now I am fully converted to develop projects onto the cloud.
What’s your favorite place/thing about the Yorkshire area?
I am still exploring Yorkshire however, I do enjoy walks around the Ilkley moors as there is rock climbing, waterfalls and you get to see a lot of wildlife. Looking forward to visiting places around Leeds too.
